The COVID-19 epidemic has been an unprecedented challenge to the art worldWGS Contemporary art gallery is working thru the issues that have stopped the gallery from being open bring artwork made by some of the hottest glass, mixed media sculptors, painters and ceramic artists to the world.

This year, WGS Contemporary will be one of the featured galleries at the prestigious Aqua Art Miami international contemporary art fair.

Throughout the years, Aqua Art Miami has continued to solidify itself as a completely unique art fair, consistently staying true to its signature relaxed yet energetic vibe. The 15th anniversary edition features 60 international exhibitors showcasing fresh new works, and set in the intimate exhibition rooms that open into a beautiful courtyard, all within a classic South Beach hotel.

WGS Contemporary Exhibit Opens Saturday, May 12th!

On Saturday, May 12, WGS Contemporary, along with the studios, art organizations, and galleries throughout the Gateway Arts District will open their doors to the public. The event is free and open to all.

Over 100 individual artists will participate in the event, making the 2018 Spring Open Studios the region’s most prominent visual arts event. Audiences can attend art openings, artist demonstrations or purchase original artwork in an artist’s studio. This artist-led event presents a fantastic opportunity to connect with the region’s most important and economically vital centers of art production.    

A free shuttle bus will make stops from Artists by the Tracks in Mount Rainier to Pyramid Atlantic in Hyattsville.  Between studios and gallery stops, the Gateway Arts Districts offers several new food and drink options along Route 1 including the recently opened Pizzeria Paradiso in Hyattsville, known for its outstanding pizza and wide selection of craft beers. Pizzeria Paradiso will host a beer festival on May 12 from 12-5 p.m.

“Embracing Narrative” – the joint exhibition of glass works by artists from WGS Contemporary and the Virginia Glass Guild opened this weekend at Virginia’s Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center (PACC). Juried by Diane Wright, Curator of Glass, Chrysler Museum of Art and Sheila Giolitti, Mayer Fine Art Gallery, the exhibit kicks off the events that lead up to the 46th annual conference being held at the Chrysler Museum and the Perry Glass Studio in June, 2017.
