Santa Fe Gallery invites you to “Kiss My GLASS!”

kiss.my.glass.sean_hennessey.artSanta Fe, New Mexico’s  William & Joseph Gallery presents “Kiss My GLASS” an exhibition featuring the glass artwork of OSAP‘s Sean Hennessey and Arizona-based sculptor Jason Chakravarty July 1-31, 2015.

“Kiss My Glass” aims to showcase the innovative and intriguing glass sculpture created by these two narrative artists. Far away from the traditional blown glass vases, these two artists have created a body of work that makes one laugh, think and asks us to see glass in a new light – as a vehicle for narrative story telling in a three dimensional format.

Jason Chakravarty is a mixed media, object maker living in Arizona. The majority of his work is cast glass and often incorporates neon for illumination.  His most recent works are semi-auto biographical and reflect on human relationships, communication, and social networking.  He holds an MFA in Sculpture from Cal State University and a BFA from Arizona State University; he has also studied at Pilchuk Glass School, Pittsburgh Glass Center and and an Artist in Residency at Toledo Museum of Art and Alfred University.

Sean Hennessey, “What About The Doors”; Glass and mixed Media

Says Sean Hennessey of his art, “The heart of my work is an examination and a suggestion of our identity in a world that places us in a struggle for harmony between our spirituality and our corporeality. My works contain messages of obstacles and of hope, of seeking and of enlightenment. I aim to create works that inspire and remind us of wonders and mysteries we have lost.  I primarily create wall relief sculptures that are representation and narrative. There is a feel of the past, but with materials and techniques of today.”

Sean’s combines cast glass, concrete, photography, drawing, light, vdeo, found objects and steel in his works. He holds a BA in Sculpture and a Minor in Philosophy from Berea College and also studied at the Institute for International Studies in Florence, Italy.  He has also exhibited at SOFA Chicago, John Hopkins University and was a featured artist at the National Institute of Health Gallery, as well as many select group exhibitions.

Kiss my Glass’ exhibition will be on display from 5-7pm during the month of July at William&Joseph Gallery

Cheryl P Derricotte “Modern Homes”

cherl.p.derricotte.jpgCheryl Patrice Derricotte is a native of Washington, DC who currently lives and makes art in Oakland, CA. One of the Washington Glass School’s inaugural Artist-In-Resident program, she has gone on to big things – she just completed a Master of Fine Arts at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS)! Cheryl s a sculptor and her primary medium is glass. Her sculptural work has been exhibited widely; her shows include  “HOME,” a joint exhibition of the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (OCCCA) and the Vietnamese Arts and Letters Association (VAALA).  Derricotte received an Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass Scholarship (2015), a Creative Capacity Fund grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation (2014) and she was the recipient of a D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities/National Endowment for the Arts Artist Fellowship grant (2005).

MFA Project -Cheryl.p.derricotte-Modern Homes

About Cheryl Derricotte’s “Modern Homes”:

Modern Homes is a visual commentary on escalating housing costs and the changing concept of home, using the Sears, Roebuck & Company as a lens.

Said Cheryl of her project: ” I live in an apartment in a converted Sears department store.  The entryway includes a photo of a well-dressed woman looking into the store window in 1929. In Modern Homes, I am looking at what Sears a century ago can tell us about the concept of home today.” Cheryl’s MFA exhibit was on display at the CIIS from April 25-May 10.

Throughout its history, Sears has had a complex relationship to the American Dream.  Beginning in the 19th century, it was the trusted to source to buy products for the home. Yet, the building materials division was not profitable. To remedy this situation, Sears created and ran the Modern Homes program, a mail-order service for houses. Sears also offered easy financing for homes. Mortgages typically were 5-15 years at 6%. Modern Homes, depicts a forgotten slice of Americana. This work reflects the fleeting nature of value in a US economy prone to bubbles and bursts.

The American relationship to the concept of home in the 21st century is a recurring theme in her art.

Congratulations Cheryl!
