Reminder: Call for Glass Artwork Entries

>Two “Call For Entries” are nearing deadline for glass artists to submit images and info. For those of you that are in need of reminding – here’s what’s coming up:

HYPEROPIA PROJECTS has a call for entries for a juried show called Superposition that challenges traditional notions of glass artwork. With a broad definition of “glass and glass related”, the organizers are looking for artists whose works inhabit so many places simultaneously that they might not fit into any of them. They are interested in works that directly address this condition of being in multiple places at once, as well as projects produced by artists who inhabit the fringes of genres
APPLICATION DEADLINE FEBRUARY 11th

Saint Louis’ Craft Alliance has announced a national invitational and juried exhibition titled “Identify Yourself” – exhibition dates are May 20-July 3 , 2011. Entry Deadline March 25th.
The theme of the show is, “Who are you? What is your history and what makes you, you?”

The curator/juror, noted gallery owner Duane Reed, will be choosing work that explores ideas pertaining to cultural identity, psychological identity or personal narrative. Some of the invited artists include Sonya Clark, Gregory Grennon, Elizabeth Lo, Mark Newport and Joyce J. Scott.

The exhibition will be at the Craft Alliance DELMAR LOOP location: 6640 Delmar Blvd, Saint Louis, MO 63130.

Call for Sculptural Glass Entries

>HYPEROPIA PROJECTS has sent out a call for entries for a juried show called Superposition that challenges traditional notions of glass artwork.

Made up of a group of practicing artists with backgrounds in glass art (Helen Lee, Alexander Rosenberg and Matthew Szösz ), Hyperopia Projects focuses on artwork that is outside the traditional glass world, drawing simultaneously from the glass, sculpture and/or new media disciplines – hovering in a “state of superposition, between disciplines and media, with infinite possibility and little actual opportunity — i.e., the discomfort of glass” They are seeking “to support a longer view of where glass is headed — where the identity of glass may be intermingled with the larger world of contemporary art.”Call For Entries:

{SUPERPOSITION} will be a juried show of sculptural glass and glass related sculpture to be held at the Center on Contemporary Art, Seattle WA in June, 2011 concurrent with the Glass Art Society Conference. They are now accepting submissions.

“We are looking for artists whose works inhabit so many places simultaneously that they might not fit into any of them. We are interested in works that directly address this condition of being in multiple places at once, as well as projects produced by artists who inhabit the fringes of genres.

The conventional work and commerce associated with glass is limited in scope, exhibition space, and growth. There is a general lack of awareness in greater contemporary practice of the fertile growth and development of glass as a sculptural medium in recent years.

Material-based artists offer a bridging ground, coming out of the material and physical understanding of their traditions and exploring the conceptual territory offered by contemporary practice, often creating their own definitions of what they are doing. Likewise, non-glass artists approach material and the issues surrounding glass from fresh and intriguing perspectives, mapping areas outside conventional glass practice, but linked to the whole.”

Call For Entries St Louis Craft Alliance

Saint Louis’ Craft Alliance has announced a national invitational and juried exhibition titled “Identify Yourself” – exhibition dates are May 20-July 3 , 2011.

The theme of the show is, “Who are you? What is your history and what makes you, you?” The curator/juror, noted gallery owner Duane Reed, will be choosing work that explores ideas pertaining to cultural identity, psychological identity or personal narrative.

Some of the invited artists include Sonya Clark, Gregory Grennon, Elizabeth Lo, Mark Newport and Joyce J. Scott. The exhibition will be at the Craft Alliance DELMAR LOOP location: 6640 Delmar Blvd, Saint Louis, MO 63130.

All featured works must be made of clay, glass, metal fiber or wood.

Call for Entries: Brentwood Arts Exchange Mixed Media Art

All Mixed Up:

A Juried Exhibition of Mixed Media Work


ALL MIXED UP is a juried exhibition of works in two or more media, sponsored by The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, Arts and Cultural Heritage Division. The exhibition will be on display at the Brentwood Arts Exchange at the Gateway Arts Center, 3901 Rhode Island Avenue, Brentwood, MD from November 1 – 27, 2010.


APPLICATION DEADLINE – September 7, 2010
All submissions must be received by 5:00pm on Tuesday, September 7.

Dates:

  • Deadline for receipt of entries: September 7, 2010
  • Notification of selected works: October 1, 2010
  • Art work drop-off period: October 21-23
  • Exhibition closes: November 27, 2010
  • Artwork pick-up period: November 29-30

Juror:


Philippa Hughes

The juror for the exhibition is Philippa Hughes, the creator of the Pink Line Project . Philippa also runs a consolidated and searchable calendar of all things cool and creative in DC and writes a widely read blog that highlights DC’s creative scene. Philippa is active in the arts community through her extensive involvement and collaboration with emerging artists and arts organizations throughout the city including The Phillips Collection, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Cultural Development Corporation, Taffety Punk Theatre Company, DC51, Art Table, Ten Miles Square, Workbook, and many others.

AWARDS
$1000 in cash awards will be made by the juror. The Prince George’s Arts Council will make a Purchase Award from this exhibition.

ELIGIBILITY & SUBMISSION CRITERIA
This call for entries is open to all artists 18 years of age or older who live, work, attend school or have studios in Prince George’s County, MD, whose artwork is constructed of two or more media (“mixed media”). Artists may submit a maximum of 3 artworks for consideration. All works must be original (no reproductions). Proposals for mixed media installation or performance works should include example images, video or audio of the type of work being proposed as well as a brief document describing the proposed art work.

Materials should be submitted by mail or delivered in person to 7833 Walker Drive, Suite 430, Greenbelt, MD. Please send:

* A CD/DVD containing images and/or segments of audio/video, each no longer than five minutes in duration.
* A printed list of the works submitted with titles, media, and dimensions.
* If you would like your materials returned, please include an SASE.

About the Brentwood Arts Exchange and the Gateway Arts Center
Having celebrated it’s grand opening on March 19, 2010, the Gateway Arts Center in Brentwood, Maryland is a dynamic space dedicated to presenting and promoting the visual arts. Corning Museum of Glass Call For Entries

Its that Time Again!

Each year, The Corning Museum of Glass conducts a worldwide competition to select 100 images of new works in glass. A committee drawn from designers, artists, curators, and critics makes the selection. The publication is intended to keep its audience, which includes museums, artists, libraries, collectors, scholars, and dealers, informed of recent developments in the field. Objects considered excellent from any of several viewpoints—such as function, subject matter, aesthetics, and technique—will be chosen. The objects selected will be published in color with the names of the makers and brief descriptions of the pieces.

Participants are requested to complete the entry form, submitting a total of three digital images illustrating one work per image. Digital photographs, which should be made using the highest-resolution setting on the camera, must be of actual objects designed and made between October 1, 2009, and October 1, 2010.

Taos Institute for Glass Art "Call for Entries"

ARTISTS: Call for Entries
Call for Entries is Now Open
TIGA is announcing the 2010 national call for entries for this year’s ever expanding Taos Art Glass Invitational. The event, produced by the Taos Institute for Glass Arts, is also sponsored by Glass Alliance – New Mexico, the Taos Gallery Association and the Town of Taos and has begun attracting top collectors from around the country. These events will be promoted in national and regional publications, with special emphasis given to personally invite national collectors.

The entry does not require submission of exact works proposed to be shown by the artist. Artists are selected on merit of the body of works submitted, which must be representative of the works the artist will be delivering for exhibition. This type of submission is for the artist’s benefit, in that it enables the artist to show the most recent works he/she has completed instead of a work made 6 or more months before, photographed, and held back for this particular opportunity of exhibition.

Deadline for submission is April 22, 2010. The jury for the Invitational Exhibition and exhibition selections for the Walking On Glass Tour will be announced on May 11, 2010. Works must be shipped or delivered by June 18, 2010.


The show will be mounted on July 1-4, with Private Collector Previews slated for July 5 -6 and Public Openings and Receptions on July 10-11. The show closes August 15, 2010.
