Artist
Incubator
Artists enrolled in the Artist Incubator program are seasoned
artists that use studio space at the School. This includes
access to tools, kilns, expert instructors and other studio
artists. This encourages and enables independent and collaborative
work by the artists to explore and establish themselves
in new mediums, refine techniques and create artwork, jewelry,
lighting and sculpture.
Art Community Participation
The Washington Glass School is active in regional and national
art community associations, events and projects.
This
involves the Management and Creative Team, Faculty and Studio
Artists as members, regular exhibitors and active contributors.
This participation includes involvement in groups such as
the National Capital Art Glass Guild, WPA/C, Glass Arts
Society, Washington Sculptors Group and Triangle
Artist Group. The Second Annual Warm Glass Conference,
in Arlington VA, September 2003, featured workshops by the
Directors. The Washington Glass School also participates
in street festivals and art fairs such as Arts on Foot
and Art-O-Matic, as well as providing avenues for
student participation in community events such as the DC
Commission for the Arts sponsored Pandamania.
Part
of our outreach program has been to provide arts training
opportunities for middle schools. Working with the education
program, students visit the glass studio and participate
in making cast glass components. The learning ties in with
information about art, craft, science, physics, and mathematics.
